Circulation

The pumping of the heart forces blood away from the heart into the arteries and veins. Arteries are vessels that carry blood away from the heart to all of the body’s tissues. Veins return the blood to the heart. Inside the veins are valves that open to allow blood to flow back toward the heart and then close to prevent blood from flowing backwards. Circulation problems occur when the valves are overworked and do not close properly. Compression stockings act like an external pump and aid the valves to close properly.
